Part 1 of this integrated external corrosion management (IECM) case study focuses on pipeline construction, known corrosion threats, inspection history, and mechanistic modeling.
The model alignment process is demonstrated, and direct current results are shown. The recommended IECM responses are discussed along with planned Part 2 activities. The Enbridge external corrosion prevention team (ECP) is developing a process by which management of external corrosion control systems can be optimized while maintaining asset integrity and safety. The proposed process framework was described in another article1 published in the April 2022 issue of Materials Performance. Here we discuss Part 1 of a case study intended to demonstrate and assess the outcomes of the approach.
