With the use of Elsyca’s CAE simulation technology dedicated to the electropolishing processes, it’s possible to meet the requirements of the new Aerospace Material Specification AMS2547.
Electropolishing is a very versatile metal finishing technique that is used across a wide range of industries. Many manufacturers use electropolishing to enhance the quality and performance of their products, providing users a specified microfinish while keeping the required dimensional specifications of the component.
The electropolishing process plays an essential role in finishing up parts of critical and sensitive applications, such as the ones used particularly in aerospace and medical industries.
As for the aerospace industry, SAE* published the very first aerospace standard dedicated to the electropolishing processes, requiring a Computer Aided Engineering Simulation approach: AMS2547.
This specification establishes the engineering requirements for electropolishing metallic parts and materials, and is applicable to critical and non-critical components, especially the ones which are currently being manufactured by trending technologies of 3D printing (additively manufactured).
As Elsyca’s electropolishing simulation expertise is the strongest one when it comes to providing quick process solutions with a great engineering touch, our Computer Aided Engineering technology is the only one that fulfills the requirements stated in AMS2547. Using Elsyca’s CAE approach, any electropolishing supplier can easily adjust the current process infrastructure (or set up a new one) towards processing of a specific component, guaranteeing the final surface finish as per aerospace OEM standards. In this case, the use of simulation acts as a dry-run that substantially reduces trial-and-error testing and economizes resource needs at all process levels (material, manpower, energy, time, etc.). The functional members of SAE have recognized those values what resulted in creating a functional aerospace standard that finally allows to address all process risks issues before any actual production can start.
AMS2547 is now available for all electropolishing processors and for any general interest on SAE website: https://www.sae.org/standards/content/ams2547/
